Lower Back Pain Causes and Cures Part 4

February 13th, 2009 · No Comments

Although it has never been a scientific principle that ice or heat would help the pain being felt in the lower back, it may be beneficial for reducing the swelling of an injury. Immediately following an accident the person should apply ice to the injury.

As long as it is frozen you can use food you have in the freezer and wrap it up in a cloth. It is recommended to use ice for several minutes a day for a couple of days. The cold will act to help in the reduction of the swelling.

Giving the injury about three days to lessen in the degree of pain should be sufficient. If it is not better after that period of time, you should see a doctor for help so there is no the possibility of permanent injury.

If you use hot water bottles or take a hot bath after the initial first few days this will allow the muscles to become less tense and help the flow of blood to the injured part. A heating pad should not be used for back injuries when you are sleeping. This can cause burns and other serious problems.

You may not think it is so but exercising is better for the muscles of the lower back when it comes to recovering from an injury even a few days after the injury.

A schedule of exercise on a weekly basis will keep the muscles from tightening up and help you to recover quicker. A series of exercises that consists of walking, stretching, and moving will help to coordinate the back muscles.
