If you are suffering from postpartum depression, do not go through this condition alone; talk with someone about the way you feel. You are not alone. You can talk with your spouse or partner, your mother, sister, brother as well as other family members and friends. You can find someone who is ready, willing and able to listen, while giving you the support you need.
Never spend a lot of time by yourself. If you are not sleeping or resting, dress the baby and go visit a friend or go to the store. On the other hand, you might take a walk around the neighborhood or the park. Since the baby will sleep wherever you may be, it does not have to be in a baby bed to sleep.
During the postpartum period it is best, not to make any life changes or life decisions, since major changes can possibly cause stress and it is best to avoid stress when possible.
Untreated depression can harm the mother, her husband, the baby, other children, the family and friends. Research shows that women who experience depression during their pregnancy have a higher risk of giving birth to a premature or underweight baby.
This may happen because women who suffer depression may find it difficult to care for themselves, by eating properly, keeping their prenatal appointments and possibly turning to tobacco, alcohol or drugs to ease the pain they feel.
Every child deserves a healthy mother, while every mother deserves the opportunity to enjoy her children and their lives. You do not have to suffer through depression alone.
There are others who are supportive of your feelings and condition. They can provide you with the answers you need to ease your pain. If you, or someone you know, is suffering from the pain and symptoms of postpartum depression, please get help immediately, by telling your spouse, family, friend, physician or midwife.

It is extremely important that you seek professional help with PPD. There are ways that it can be treated! We need to heighten PPD awareness very badly. It still isn’t as spoken about as it should be! According to the Dietary Supplement Information Bureau page on pregnancy & PPD support, women can be taking supplements rich in multiple vitamins and minerals & these nutrients promote a healthy state of mind during and after a pregnancy. I’m not stating that this is a cure for PPD, or guarateeing that it will be as affective as medications will be in actually treating PPD. However, such nutrients can aid in the recovery process and, if taken ahead of time, can lessen the affects of PPD.
