Another exercise to reduce or prevent varicose veins is to try lying on your back, arms at your sides. Raising your legs, perform a “pedal-pushing†series of motions.
Imagine riding a bicycle upwards. This will decrease pressure on the veins and stimulate circulation – for this reason, this is an excellent exercise for varicose veins.
A third option is to again lie on your back and draw up one knee towards the chest. Hold your leg up, moving the foot and ankle while doing so. This exercise also promotes circulation and discourages the formation of varicose veins.
Some activities can actually promote the formation of varicose veins however;Â these include high-impact aerobics and jogging. Overdoing it while cycling can also be a contributing factor, so take it a little easy on the bike. Standing in place for a long time also is a no-no if you are trying to avoid varicose veins. Basically, any activity which tends to increase blood pressure in the veins of the legs should be avoided.
If you are going to have to stand for a long time, try to shift your weight from one leg to the other to maintain better circulation. Bouncing on your toes from time to time can also help. Take a brief walk when you can (for instance, around the block). After a day on your feet, rest with your legs elevated to increase drainage from the legs. Try to do this for an hour or more, if you have the time.
Remember, exercise for varicose veins is one of the best treatments, as well as preventions for these ugly, painful and potentially serious veins.
Keep in shape and good health, and you will be much better protected.
